Triggerfish is excited to announce that Mike Scott‘s “Moosebox” has been picked up for development by Nickelodeon. The 2D animation done in 8-bit style pixel animation was produced at Triggerfish Animation Studios after Mike Scott’s pitch was chosen as one of 10 shorts to be produced for Nickelodeon’s 2013 Global Animated Shorts Program. The 2 minute short was directed and animated by Mike at the studios and it has now been released online with an announcement from Animation World Network. You can watch here:

Khumba Heritage Day premiere in 3 languages

In a fitting celebration for Heritage Day, viewers across South Africa can catch Khumba on DSTV in either English, Afrikaans or Zulu on Wednesday 24th at 18:30. Heritage Day is a South African public holiday celebrated on 24 September. On this day, South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people. The story of Khumba about a zebra born with only half his stripes is a truly South African story which aims to do exactly that so catch it in one of the 3 languages from next week!

Meet the Makers

One of the events that form part of Creative Week Cape Town is a project called Meet the Makers. Meet the Makers is an opportunity to explore the studio spaces and have in-depth discussions with some of the city’s leading creatives. All the events are free, but have limited spaces. On Monday, the group will be visiting Hasan and Husein Essop in Hout Bay at the Lalela Project and then  Triggerfish Animation in Bergvliet – to get a sneak peak into the studio behind the animation “Khumba”.

Triggerfish to host animation 48 Hour Film Project

Triggerfish is offering its facilities to any Animation teams who would like to compete in this year’s 48 Hour Film Project.

As many of you already know Animation can take a very long time. On a film like Khumba only 3 seconds on animation is completed in a single day. One can spend hours or days on a single expression. Well we’d like to shake things up a bit. BENCHfilms and Triggerfish would like to challenge all animators in Cape Town to try and make a short film in 48hours as part of this year’s 48hourfilmproject; where perfection comes second and story is king. Triggerfish at DISCOP Africa

DISCOP Africa is a three-day TV content event happening Nov 5-7th in Johannesburg, combining a major industry trade show, educational seminars and networking events, designed around building new relationships and growing a business.

Triggerfish partner Anthony Silverston will be attending as a member of the Final Jury for a pitching competition held as part of the DISCOPRO Program, showcasing new and original ideas for programming from African producers.

Triggerfish creates Stick Man film with Magic Light Pictures

Magic Light Pictures has optioned the rights to adapt Stick Man, a children’s book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

The company will create a half hour animated film version set to land in 2015.

“We‘re delighted to have the opportunity to adapt this wonderfully witty and emotional story about a ‘stick man’ who has to get back to his family in time for Christmas,” said Michael Rose, co-founder, Magic Light Pictures.

A huge thank you to everyone who has sent in their reel in response to our advertised job openings for our new project back in April! We’ve recieved an overwhelming amount of applications and it has been truly inspiring to see the tremendous talent that exists in South Africa.

We’re sure that many people are wondering what happened to their application and whether they have been successful in finding a place. With so many applicants, we simply could not respond to every submission and so we thought it would be a good idea to give an update on our progress. It is quite a tricky process to make sure that we have exactly the right person in each available position and we have had to be very selective and thoughtful in evaluating every applicant.
